American Idol Kris Allen

Congratulations to the winner of yesterday's American Idol Kris Allen! I won't go into details on how shocking the victory was over Adam Lambert - I know you are just as stunned as me. This is especially since I believe he was outsung by Lambert on Tuesday, May 19, 2009, much less the rest of the season.

Now, it's not my right to judge anybody (after all I don't get paid the $263,000 per episode like Simon Cowell does). That said, I thought I'd provide my own opinion as to why I believe Allen won. I believe that his devout faith in Christianity has alot to do with it.

Remember how the newly crowned American Idol Kris Allen appeared quite self-less and magnanimous the day he auditioned for Season 8? Rather than responding to the typical "Do you think you can win American Idol?" with a typical "yes", he immediately humbled himself and claimed, "I think alot of people are better than me."

This selflessness could be confused with a lack of confidence. But not so. Being humble is a principle trait of Christianity - "Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall." Proverbs 16:18, NIV; "Better to be lowly in spirit and among the oppressed than to share plunder with the proud." Proverbs 16:19, NIV. Therefore, in a nutshell, one should be humble, not overly proud, to receive God's blessings.

Needless to say, he was a worship leader in his church in Arkansas and, at the tender age of 23, has been to several countries - mostly in African and Asia - doing missionary work.

I'll bet that his family was praying alot for God to provide the right outcome in the AI8 contest. And praise the Lord! It was in His plan to declare underdog Allen the winner!

I would like to hear your comments regarding this on American Idol Kris Allen.
